Postdoctoral Research Associate

Obtained a degree in Marine Sciences with Environment and pollutions, pecialization marine pollution by the Universidade de Vigo, Spain in 2008. I got my PhD in Marine Sciences on the topic of Applied cryobiology, in July 2014, obtaining the Doctorate award 2013/2014 from Universidade de Vigo.

Area of resarch: 

1.- Developing cryopreservation techniques: vitrification (freezing rate of 69,000 C/minute). Vitrification causes a glassy state thatprevents the formation of intracellular ice, using a ultra-high warming with IR laser (10 million C/minute) that allows to reduce the concentrations of cryoprotecting compounds and increase the survival. The hypotheses has already developed from a theoretical point and  now we are testing it on with several model organisms.

2.- Cryopreservation and Ecotoxicology: Development of bio-assays with cryopreserved early-life stages of marine invertebrates using slow  cooling cryopreservation.

3.-Cryopreservation and Aquaculture: Development of cryopreservation protocols for marine organisms with applications in Aquaculture: oyster, mussels, sea urchins, marine and freshwater micro algae.

4.- Aquaculture: working on the development of breeding cycles and implementing diets: sea urchins, Hake.

Profesional experience: 

-. Postdoctoral Research Associate  at the group of Fundamental and Applied Cryobiology. Biochemistry, cellular and Molecular Biology Department. University of Tennessee-Knoxville since October 2014.
